D. C. Taylor Co. Receives Second Place in Project of the Year Competition
Cedar Rapids, IA (February 27, 2013) – D. C. Taylor Co. is proud to announce that its roofing project on the pavilion of TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation’s (NYSE: AMTD) new Omaha (NE) Campus office tower has been recognized as the second place winner in the waterproofing category of the 2012 Sika Sarnafil Contractor Project of the Year Competition.
D. C. Taylor Co. Project Supervisor Mike Poorman accepted D. C. Taylor Co.’s second place award at a dinner held in conjunction with the International Roofing Expo on February 4, 2013, in San Antonio. “It was a real privilege to execute this project. I speak on behalf of the entire crew when I say how honored we are to be recognized by Sika Sarnafil for our work,” says Poorman.
The pavilion, a 12,858-square-foot plaza deck where Sarnafil membrane was installed, posed unique challenges for D. C. Taylor Co. To maximize energy efficiency, the roof system was designed to use two layers of insulation with staggered joints. The first layer was installed so it would taper to the drains; membrane was loose laid over the top. Because the pavilion would be accessible for use by the company’s employees, a flat roof was required. To achieve this, a second layer of insulation was installed over the membrane, this time with an inverted taper. Holes were drilled through the top layer of insulation to allow moisture to penetrate through the vegetated surface to the drains.
Through the use of quality materials and a detailed design for the project, creative processes for executing it, and careful coordination with other trades, D. C. Taylor Co. achieved TD Ameritrade’s demands for a high-performance green roof system.
