2014 Winter Training Prepares Roofing Crews at D. C. Taylor Co.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Feb. 4, 2014) – D. C. Taylor Co. is pleased to announce that 70 of its project managers, project supervisors, and crewmembers have completed the company’s annual winter training. On January 13, 2014, representatives from the company’s Iowa, Georgia, and Illinois offices converged at the headquarters in Cedar Rapids, IA, for four days of intense instruction.
Sessions focused on emergency response and equipment operation. D. C. Taylor Co.’s Director of Environmental Health and Safety and its Safety Technician led OSHA compliance training with break-out sessions provided in both English and Spanish.
Additional presentations on performance management, human resources, and the future of the company were given. “We like to bring the field personnel into the office as a group to discuss changes to the company and where we are headed,” explains Shawna Wiebel, Assistant Vice President Project Administration, D. C. Taylor Co. “These people are on the front lines getting the work done for D. C. Taylor Co. They have knowledge and skills second to none and can help move our company in the direction we want to go.”
Process improvement was another topic that received attention during the training. As part of the ongoing initiative launced by the company in 2009, D. C. Taylor Co. held a workshop to further educate participants on the benefits of eliminating waste through lean practices. Individuals were asked to brainstorm ways to improve the efficiency and use of a daily project log. “Our team members quickly identified and sorted their ideas for improving the daily project report process. Our organization benefits immensely when we have process participants share their ideas about how to improve the work they perform,” says Jacki Robison, D. C. Taylor Co.’s Business Process Manager.
