D. C. Taylor Co. Winery Project Recognized by RoofPoint

January 30, 2014

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Jan. 30, 2014) – D. C. Taylor Co. is pleased to announce that its project for Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, CA, received an honorable mention in the 2013 RoofPointCM Excellence in Design Awards for Excellence in Reroofing.

RoofPointCM is a voluntary, consensus-based green rating system developed by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing to provide a means for building owners and designers to select nonresidential roof systems based on long-term energy and environmental benefits. The 2013 RoofPoint Excellence in Design Award recognizes the best in design and installation of long-lasting, energy efficient, environmentally friendly roof systems. Annual award winners are selected from projects that best exemplify the mission and meet the criteria of RoofPoint.

Finishing the three-month project in January 2013, D. C. Taylor Co. restored the winery’s 187,500-square foot foam roof with an acrylic coating, extending roof life by 25-plus years. More than 10,500 cubic yards of waste was diverted from the landfill through the reuse of existing roof assembly components. Water run-off was also captured during roof preparation and power washing to prevent contaminated water from entering the vineyard’s soil.

Blue Sky Utility, a Napa, CA-based solar rooftop and renewable energy developer, coordinated with BPi as the EPC contractor, who subcontracted D. C. Taylor Co. for the installation of a solar system on the newly cured roof.

More than 1,300 solar standoffs, the solar PV racking system, and 4,620 solar panels were installed. The system will provide 1.6 megawatt hours of energy annually, helping the vineyard offset its demand from the grid.
