D. C. Taylor Moves Corporate Office
D. C. Taylor Co. is excited to announce that it has moved its headquarters to a renovated facility at 500 Stickle Dr. NE in Cedar Rapids, IA. The new building is less than three miles from its former office, but is more proportionate to the size of the company’s corporate and Iowa-based workforce. “This has been a good move during COVID. Because the decision was made in advance to right size, it’s worked out well with the amount of staff that have been either working from home or in the office,” says Brent Taylor, President, D. C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, IA.
Renovation of the 30,433 square foot replica train depot took approximately three months and involved updating and refreshing almost all interior finishes (i.e. paint, lighting, bathroom fixtures). Kitchen improvements and added security features were other changes. “D. C. Taylor Co. crews were used for most of the demolition work, painting, and the move of the warehouse inventory and equipment,” says Jon Reiss, Vice President Procurement & Logistics, D. C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, IA. The warehouse area was enhanced with pallet racking, modular offices for shop personnel, updated fabrication equipment, a new overhead door, and ramp access for trucks.
The addition of high-speed internet access to the location delayed the move about six months. It was worth the wait, though. “The office size is more in line with our day-to-day business activities. It has good access to Interstate 380, less vehicle traffic, and is close to walking trails for employees to take breaks,” adds Reiss. The neighboring 12.6-mile Cedar River Trail can be accessed at the 4th Street entrance and offers views of native wildflowers, grasses, and prairie as it winds along Cedar Lake and Cedar River.
“The adjustment has required we continuously reiterate COVID precautions, perform temperature checks at the door, wear face masks, and social distance; cleaning/disinfecting surfaces is becoming commonplace,” says Taylor about how the in-office employees are adjusting. “I believe everyone is happy to have a fresh start in a new spot.”
