D. C. Taylor Co. Recognizes National Safety Month

June 12, 2014

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (June 12, 2014) – In recognition of National Safety Month and as part of its continuous effort to improve safety and health processes and jobsite safety performance, D. C. Taylor Co. conducted extra tailgate meetings and on-the-job fall protection training during National Safety Stand-Down Week (June 2-6).

Even with an EMR and TIR well below the industry average and 2013 lost workday incidence rate of 0.00, D. C. Taylor Co. remains vigilant in its mission to conduct roofing work without injury.  “Employees from the company’s five offices are participating in events across the country to prevent falls and continue efforts to provide a safe place of employment at D. C. Taylor Co.,” adds Brad Richardson, CSP, Director Environmental Health and Safety, D. C. Taylor Co., Phoenix.

Richardson recently announced that he will be making unplanned visits to jobsites across the country in the coming months to do his own safety audits. The jobsite safety inspections will be unannounced, in accordance with OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) requirements. “Our 100-percent Job Hazard Analysis completion rate is proof that supervisors and crews are identifying the hazards pertinent to reroofing activities and executing the extensive safety and health training they receive to plan countermeasures, but we feel that there is still an opportunity to reduce risk and improve processes,” says Richardson. “We believe these inspections will help us further identify those opportunities.”
