Simple Maintenance Checklist for Commercial Roofs

December 9, 2013

A proactive approach to maintenance maximizes your investment by extending the longevity of your roofing system. At a minimum, you should do the following.

Remove Debris.

Debris can plug drains and, during high winds, blow across the surface of the roof causing damage.

Keep a history of maintenance.

On warranted systems, this record is evidence that you are being compliant with the warranty.

Log roof traffic and access.

Enforce sign-in at roof access points. This enables accountability in case the roof is damaged by contractors.

Perform routine inspections.

Hire a professional to inspect the roof at the end of winter and summer, or whenever the roof has been under environmental stress and surface use.

Install protective accessories.

Walkway pad, pipe supports, and grease guards can prevent unnecessary damage to the roof.
