Sika Sarnafil Honors D. C. Taylor Co. as a 2006
Applicator 'Project of the Year' Challenge Winner
D. C. Taylor Co. was named
a winner of Sika Sarnafil Inc.s 2006
applicator Project of the Year challenge for its work on the University of
Northern Iowas McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. Sika Sarnafil Inc. is a
manufacturer of thermoplastic roofing and waterproofing systems.
The project, which received second place in the waterproofing category, required
waterproofing a heavily trafficked 25,000-square-foot plaza area that was
located above offices and maintenance areas. Leak tight performance was
critical. Working with D. C. Taylor Co., the owner selected Sika Sarnafils
System 1000 to waterproof the plaza, which consisted of two sections, divided by
an enclosed walkway connecting two buildings. The work required constant
coordination with other trades to maintain quality workmanship and meet tight
schedules. Attention to detail was critical as the plaza deck pavers were held
in place by 320 pins, each one set in grid adhesive and flashed for a watertight
seal.

NRCA Recognizes D. C. Taylor Co. for a 2007 Gold Circle Award on Low-Slope Roofing Systems
D. C. Taylor Co. was a finalist for the National Roofing Contractors
Associations 2007 Gold Circle Awards for outstanding workmanship on
low-slope roofing systems. D. C. Taylor Co., who was awarded honorable
mention, was nominated by and recognized for its work on the
Georgia-Pacific Tissue Mill in Rincon, Ga.
Georgia-Pacific Corp.
needed a new roof over its tissue-converting operation in Rincon. In
addition to the typical concerns of a re-roofing project such as
schedule, keeping the building watertight at night, safe working
practices, and a high-quality roofing system, D. C. Taylor Co. could not
allow metal shavings to contaminate the finished tissue products.
Working with the Georgia-Pacific engineering team, D. C. Taylor Co.
installed a fully adhered Carlisle SynTec Sure-Weld roof system
incorporating two layers of fully adhered insulation in Carlisle SynTec
Fast-100 adhesive. This eliminated the use of mechanical anchors
penetrating the steel deck and the subsequent shavings the process would
produce.
D. C. Taylor Co.s project management plan and commitment to
exceeding the high safety standards of Georgia-Pacific produced a
successful project ahead of schedule with no injuries or disruption to
Georgia-Pacifics operations.
